Dr. Wm. Richard Salter was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. After graduating from high school, he attended Abilene Christian University and graduated cum laude in 1983. He did a year of research at Texas Tech Medical School after graduating from ACU, and then began medical school there in 1984 and graduation in 1988. Dr. Salter then began his internship and residency at The University of Kentucky, completing it in 1992.
He then moved to Texarkana, Texas to begin his OB-GYN practice with a multi-specialty clinic there. After two years in Texarkana, he and his wife decided to move to Dallas. He joined a large single-specialty OB-GYN group in Dallas, and established an office in Garland, Texas in 1995. With two of his partners, Dr. Salter decided to leave the large group and start their own practice, Advanced OB-GYN Associates, opening the new practice on 4/1/08.

Dr. Salter is also a clinical faculty member of the Baylor Garland Family Practice Residency program, and helps in the training and education of the Family Practice residents in obstetrics and gynecology. In addition, he is a frequent speaker at national medical meetings on minimally invasive office procedures, including Essure Hysteroscopic Permanent Contraception and Her Option Cryo-endometrial Ablation, and assists in training physicians in these and other surgical procedures.

Dr. Salter was also one of the first Gynecologists in Dallas to use the da Vinci Surgical Robotic Procedure on all of his major gynecologic surgeries, giving his patients the opportunity to have a quicker recovery and return to normal activities. Dr. Salter is one of the national instructors for the da Vinci system, and proctors gynecologists in their training on the da Vinci robotic system.

DR. SALTER'S PERSONAL INFO
Dr. Salter has been married since 1994, and has 3 children. When not at the hospital or office,
he enjoys all outdoor activities with his family, including
running, snowboarding, tennis, and golf. He has been
active in coaching his children’s basketball teams
for several years.
Since 2008, Dr. Salter and several other surgeons and specialists have worked with Predisan, a Honduran faith-based organization, traveling to Catacamas, Honduras and performing surgery and caring for needy families in the mountains of eastern Honduras. He has also been involved in medical missions in Guatemala and Mexico, and is a volunteer physician at Brother Bill's Helping Hand Clinic and Christ's Family Clinic in Dallas.
