Dr.
Wm. Richard Salter was born and raised in Memphis, TN.
After graduating from high school, he attended Abilene
Christian University and graduated cum laude in 1983.
Following graduation, he did a year of research at Texas
Tech Medical School, and then began medical school there
in 1984. His first two years of medical school at Texas
Tech were in Lubbock, and the last two years were in
El Paso. After graduating from medical school in 1988,
he moved to Lexington, KY for an internship and residency
at the University of Kentucky in Obstetrics & Gynecology.
Completing his training in 1992, Dr. Salter moved to
Texarkana, TX and began his Ob-Gyn practice with a multi-specialty
clinic there. After two years in Texarkana, he and his
wife decided to move to Dallas. He joined a large single-specialty
Ob-Gyn group, and established an office in Garland, Texas
in 1995. Last year, with two of his partners, Dr. Salter
decided to leave the large group and start his own group, Advanced
Ob-Gyn Associates, opening the new practice
on 4/1/08.
Dr. Salter's practice involves routine and high risk
obstetrics, routine office gynecology, minimally invasive
in-office gynecologic procedures, minimally invasive
major and minor gynecologic surgeries, initial infertility
evaluation and treatment, and early stage gynecologic
cancer surgery. He has hospital privileges at Forest
Park Medical Center, Baylor Plano Medical Center, Baylor
Garland Medical Center, and North Garland Surgery Center.
Dr.
Salter is also a clinical faculty member of the Baylor
Garland Family Practice Residency program, and helps
in the training and education of the Family Practice
residents in obstetrics and gynecology. In addition,
he is a frequent speaker at national medical meetings
on minimally invasive office procedures, including Essure
and Her Option, and assists in training physicians in
these and other surgical procedures. He is also one of
the few Gynecologists in Dallas to use the da Vinci robotic
surgical system on all of his major gynecologic surgeries,
giving his patients the opportunity to have a quicker
recovery and return to normal activities, as well as
acts as a proctor in training physicians in this new
surgical technology. Dr. Salter is frequently interviewed
by the local Dallas-Ft. Worth area TV news and print
media where he is asked to discuss women’s health
care issues, trends, and new technology.
Dr. Salter has been married since 1994, and has 3 children: ages 13, 10, and
5. When not at the hospital or office, he enjoys all outdoor activities with
his family, including running, snowboarding, tennis, and golf. He has been
active in coaching his children’s basketball teams for several years.
For the last few years, Dr. Salter's family has spent a week each summer in
Guatemala on a medical mission trip with physicians, nurses, and their families
from several different churches in the Dallas-Ft Worth area.
For the past two
winters Dr. Salter, several other general surgeons, and other specialists have
traveled to Honduras to help patients needing surgery in under-served areas
of that country. This summer, Dr. Salter and his family went to Colorado where
he was the camp physician for Kanakuk Colorado for one of the summer terms.
Dr. Salter also enjoys volunteering at Christ’s Family Clinic in Dallas
several times a month, providing medical care for disadvantaged patients.
